Role in the Process
In our Depict! Production, our group worked well together,
sharing out jobs throughout the production process. My role consisted of
finalising the pre-production paperwork, briefly staring in the film, operating
the camera and doing a portion of the video editing. In terms of pre-production
paperwork, I completed: the location release, minutes, production schedule,
risk assessments, shot list and storyboard. During the pre-production process,
we collaborated, sharing ideas and suggestions throughout. This helped us to
develop and expand on our initial ideas. As Oscar and I starred in the film, it
was necessary for members of our group to share roles. For example, I operated
the camera for scenes which I didn’t star in, and other members of our group
operated the camera when I was in the shot. In hindsight, our group should have
improved our communication. Therefore, we could have organised times for
filming outside of lessons, with all members of our group being present.
The End Product
Overall, our group was pleased with our production’s end
product. Continuity in our production was considered throughout, and there were
few continuity issues as a result. One possible continuity issue was the fact
that I was wearing different clothes in two different shots. However, due to
the different filming location, this continuity error is less evident.
Furthermore, some of the outdoor shots were filmed on different days.
Consequently, the weather conditions were different in some of our shots.
Unfortunately, there were some technical issues in terms of
filming our production. For example, some shots were out of focus or had poor
exposure. In future, we should watch all footage before moving onto another
shot, ensuring that filming issues were detected early in the production
process.
In terms of editing, all members of our group helped ensure
that our combined vision was portrayed in the final edit. I was pleased the
final edit of our Depict! Production, as the pace of the film was maintained
throughout and it had a cohesive narrative.
Pre-Production
Overall, our group adhered to the pre-production paperwork
well throughout the production process. Thanks to having prepared our film’s
cast beforehand filming began, we did not encounter any major issues regarding
the talent. However, during filming some of the locations set out in our
pre-production paperwork had to be changed, due to poor weather conditions. In
future, we should have alternative locations in mind, or be prepared to film
outside, in order to prevent delays to the production process. Another
shortcoming of our production was the use of limited shot types. We had aimed
to use a wider array of shots types in our pre-production paperwork, however
due to time constraints and lack of camera experience, some shot types were
changed. To combat this, we should have been more prepared to tackle the
different shot types before filming began.
